Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is to name “10 characters you didn’t click with, but I drew a blank. So I went back into the Top Ten archives and found this one:
Ten books you want to have on a deserted island
Not sure I can do this, but the first four are books within books or multiple tales within one large book. Is that considered cheating? But if I’m going to be on a deserted island might as well have what I want. Right?
Mark Twain: Four Complete Novels
The Complete Tales of Edgar Allan Poe
HP Lovecraft: Great Tales of Horror
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte – Jane Eyre, Plain Jane – whatever you want to call her is one of the strongest literary female characters out there.
Anything by by Maya Angelou – Maya Angelou is a definite on a deserted island for me.
The Color Purple by Alice Walker – I saw the movie before I read the book and I loved them both. I love that this book is written in letter form – Letters to God
The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri – It’s The Divine Comedy, what else needs to be said.
Kindred by Octavia Butler – Kindred is hailed as the first African-American science fiction novel and because of that it’s a must have for me.
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston – I fell in love with this book in college. Actually, I hated it because I didn’t understand the dialect. Then my grandmother read it to me and I got it and realized how beautifully written it is.
