The Friday 56 – Amerika by Franz Kafka

The Friday 56 is a weekly meme hosted over at Freda’s Voice. The rules are simple and go something like this.

Friday 561.  Grab a book, any book.
2.  Turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader (If you have to improvise, that’s ok.)
3.  Find any sentence, (or a few, just don’t spoil it)
4.  Post it.
5.  Add the post url, not your blog url to the Linky.
6. Tweet it #Friday56 (not an official Freda’s Voice rule)

This weeks Friday 56 is doing double duty. It’s a book club read and is part of my Back to Classics reading challenge. For the Back to Classics it’s for the classic in translation.

He no longer considered it inconceivable that the only reason his uncle had withheld permission for this visit for so long was that he knew of Mr. Pollunder’s  character weakness, and as a result, even if he could not have exactly foreseen how Karl’s feelings would be hurt, he must have known that this was a distinct possibility. Besides, Karl did not care for the American girl. . .
