Top Ten Tuesday

Howdy all,

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday didn’t give me a warm fuzy because I didn’t do as much reading as I planned in 2016 and nothing I read was underrated.

So, I decided to go back through past Top Ten Tuesdays and see what struck me. And the following is the prompt that caught my attention.

Books I’d Want on a Deserted Island

  1. Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
    I love Hurston. Enough said.
  2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
I’m not a a big fan of romance novels, but for some reason Jane Eyre holds a special place in my heart. Perhaps it’s because of all the dysfunction. But no matter, Jane Eyre is one of my favorites that I can read over and over.
  3. The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
Ahh smut. If you’re going to be on a deserted island you’ve got to have some smut
  4. The Decameron by Giovanni Boccacceio
The precursor to the Canterbury Tales. So, why not have a little more smut.
  5. The Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo
This has been on my TBR list for a while now and it keeps getting pushed back down on the pile. I’m thinking that this may be the only way I’ll have an opportunity to read it.
  6. Finnegan’s Wake or Ulysses by James Joyce
I’m not sure which one of these I’d like to have. After all being on a deserted island is maddening enough who in their right mind would want to try and figure out two of the most difficult novels out there. But this may be my only opportunity.
  7. Paradise Lost by Milton
I read this in college and have always thought about rereading it, so I guess this would the perfect time
  8. Persepolis Parts 1 & 2 by Marjane Satrapi
Love a good graphic novel. I read the first book and thoroughly enjoyed it.
  9. The Complete Tales and Poems of Edgar Alan Poe
Tales of horror and the macabre
  10. H. P. Lovecraft Great Tales of Horror
More tales of horror and the macabre
  11. The Complete Sherlock Holmes
Love a good mystery with a dysfunctional detective who’s addicted to cocaine, smart as a whip while simultaneously being a bit batcrap crazy.
