Throwback Thursday – 2016

I’m in the process of revamping and rethinking some things on my blog. I did my first Throwback (Flashback Friday) post a few weeks ago and truly enjoyed it.

It gave me an opportunity to think, focus and reflect on happier times in my life. Not that I’m not happy now. Perhaps I should say a more carefree time in my life.

You know the time when all you had to worry about is if that boy (or girl) liked you and if you wanted to buy something you went to mom and dad and asked for it or the money to go buy it.

Yeah, that time.

Sooo, I’ve decided to make this a regular feature. And, here we go. Book: Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

I bought Homegoing after reading the first couple of chapters in the bookstore. I added it to my ever-growing TBR and as usual promised to read it sooner rather than later, but it’s now later and still on my TBR.

Homegoing is Gyasi’s debut novel. It follows two sisters from two different villages in Ghana. One sister is taken as a wife by a slave trader while the other is housed beneath the castle and sold into slavery.

One thread of Homegoing follows Effia’s descendants through centuries of warfare in Ghana, as the Fante and Asante nations wrestle with the slave trade and British colonization. The other thread follows Esi and her children into America. From the plantations of the South to the Civil War and the Great Migration, from the coal mines of Pratt City, Alabama, to the jazz clubs and dope houses of twentieth-century Harlem, right up through the present day.

Movie: Zootopia

Zootopia was probably my favorite movie of 2016, and it was more than likely because of this scene. 👇 Who hasn’t had this experience?

Songs: Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake

I’m just going to say whenever I hear this song I can’t keep myself from breaking out the dance moves.
