Wednesday Writes – Friday Fictioneers

I haven’t written anything for Friday Fictioneers in a long time. It’s a weekly meme hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. Each week a photo prompt is provided and you write a 100 word story using that photo as inspiration.

The office was dark when my team and I arrived.

“Do you smell that?” Madison said.

There was a heavy metallic smell in the air.

“Yes,” I said. “Death.”

Someone switched on the light and we stood in silence and horror. Bodies everywhere. Blood everywhere.

Instinctively, we walked single file to the lab – our shoes staining with blood. We looked for signs of life. Nothing. We collected our gear and in silence began processing the worst crime scene of our careers. The deaths of our colleagues. Our friends.

Today was supposed to be like any other day at the office.

  1. The team who normally does crime scene labwork ( for the police I assume) returns to work to find their offiice **is**the crime scene. I love it when plots double back on themselves!
They seem so professional and are obviously well-acquainted with the “smell of death.” But i can’t quite figure out the last word: “strangers.”
